5 Canada Square, Canary Wharf

Client: Proplant ScaffoldingLocation: Canary Wharf, LondonDate: March 2026

Project Overview

We provided the scaffold design for a high-profile signage removal project at 5 Canada Square in Canary Wharf — the former Bank of America building. The works required a bespoke access solution to safely remove large-scale signage from the upper levels of the building, with significant constraints around height, projection over the public realm, and weekend-only working windows.

The Design Challenge

The design centred on a Layher access staircase from roof level up to the structural steel framework, with a continuous beamed walkway spanning across the steelwork to provide access to both the north and south faces of the building. Hanging scaffolds were then installed on both the interior and exterior faces of the signage positions to allow safe removal.

Aluminium standards were specified to reduce weight for the dropper installations, and full material tethering was required throughout due to the extreme height and the projection of the scaffold over the building edge. All erection and dismantling was coordinated around weekend road and pavement closures in Canary Wharf.

What Node Delivered

Full bespoke scaffold design package using the Layher system to minimise loose fittings at height. 2D construction drawings, 3D model and structural calculations delivered to programme. The project was completed ahead of schedule with no safety incidents, with all works carried out within the weekend closure windows.
