We were appointed to deliver the scaffold design for a major facade refurbishment at Merchant Square, a large mixed-use residential and commercial development in Paddington, London. The building overlooks the Grand Union Canal basin, and the works required full access scaffolding to the entire principal elevation across multiple storeys.
The scaffold wrapped the full height and width of the building facade, rising approximately ten storeys and requiring careful integration with the occupied residential units behind. The design had to maintain safe access to ground-floor commercial premises throughout the works, with green hoarding installed at street level to separate the public realm from the working area.
Debris netting was specified to the full scaffold elevation for containment, and the proximity to the canal basin introduced additional wind exposure that had to be accounted for in the structural calculations. Coordination between multiple work packages — cladding, window replacement and facade repairs — meant the scaffold layout had to accommodate overlapping access requirements across different programme phases.
Full scaffold design package for one of Paddington's largest residential facade projects. 2D construction drawings, 3D model and structural calculations issued to the contractor, with ongoing coordination across the phased works programme to ensure uninterrupted access as work packages progressed.
