Project Overview

We were appointed as scaffold design consultants for a scaffolding package at the Royal Albert Hall — one of London’s most iconic and recognisable landmarks. The Grade I listed concert hall required a bespoke access scaffold solution for external façade works, designed and delivered under an extremely tight programme.

The Design Challenge

The scaffold was designed to wrap around a section of the Hall’s distinctive curved red-brick and terracotta façade, providing full access from ground level to above the decorative frieze. The design had to respect the building’s heritage status throughout — no fixings into the listed fabric, carefully managed tie positions, and protective measures to prevent any contact damage to the ornamental stonework and terracotta detailing.

A bridging arrangement was required over the arched entrance below to maintain public access during the works. The scaffold was fully netted to the upper levels for debris containment, with the structure designed to follow the curved geometry of the building rather than a standard rectilinear layout. The entire package was handed over in just over two weeks to meet the client’s programme.

What Node Delivered

Full bespoke scaffold design for one of the UK’s most prestigious heritage buildings. 2D construction drawings, 3D model and structural calculations delivered to an accelerated programme. The entire design package was turned around and handed over to the contractor in just over two weeks.
