We provided the scaffold design for a refurbishment project on Tooley Street, directly behind London Bridge station in one of central London’s busiest pedestrian areas. The scaffold wrapped a corner building at the junction of Tooley Street and Vine Lane, requiring a fully enclosed access scaffold with pavement gantry to maintain public access on all sides throughout the works.
Tooley Street carries extremely heavy foot traffic from London Bridge station, with thousands of commuters and tourists passing the site daily. The scaffold design had to maintain clear pedestrian routes on all sides of the corner building while providing full access to the upper elevations for facade refurbishment works.
A pavement gantry was designed at ground level with a fully boarded soffit and yellow pedestrian bollards to separate the public from the working area. The scaffold above was fully clad in monarflex sheeting for weather protection and debris containment, rising above the parapet to allow works to the roof level. The corner geometry required careful coordination of the scaffold layout to wrap cleanly around two elevations without creating obstructions at the junction.
The site was registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme, and all elements of the design had to meet the strict requirements for public-facing sites in high-footfall central London locations — including overhead protection, maintained sightlines for road users, and minimal visual impact to the surrounding streetscape.
